Can you make a plush that looks like my pet if I don’t have a cat?
How long does it take you to make [a product]?
Why are the mini items nearly the same price as their plush counterparts? Shouldn’t they be cheaper?
Absolutely! Email me with a description or photo of your furry or feathered friend, and I’ll work with you to create a replica of your favorite little buddy.
It takes me anywhere from 20 minutes to 20 hours to complete items, depending on the complexity. Since each item is handmade, the same pattern can take 1 hour on a good day and 2 hours on a bad day, because I’m human and sometimes life happens.
I like to time myself making a few samples of a pattern and average the results to give me an estimate of how long that pattern will take the next time I make it.
Great question! Complicated answer.
The short answer:
It takes the same amount of time (if not more) to make the mini items as it does the plush items. I use the same stitch pattern for both; the biggest difference is the materials.
The long answer:
The fabric that crochet creates is based on two primary factors: hook size (the diameter of your tool) and yarn weight (the diameter of the yarn you use).
For the mini and plush items, I have to use the smallest hook I can for the yarn to make sure there are no gaps between stitches (gotta keep that stuffing in!).
The plush items use very soft, but very thick yarn, which requires a larger hook. Thick yarn + large hook = larger item. The mini items are made of a thinner yarn, which requires a much smaller hook to prevent gaps. Thin yarn + small hook = smaller item.
Smaller items also allow less room for me to maneuver my hands and the hook, which means using more complex techniques to ensure all stitches stay tight and secure.
